Taking the Classroom Captive for the Kingdom of Christ
Reimagining Education as Discipleship
We believe that the call of the Apostle Paul to “live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1) is the defining purpose of life, and we believe that education can be a powerful tool in preparing us to fulfill that purpose. We have designed the Valor Training Center to be such a tool.
Too often, school is a distraction from our true purpose, and may even become a detriment. So much time is dominated by the demands of the school schedule—a schedule that is determined by the values of modern American society, not the story and values of Jesus’ kingdom.
Paul calls us to “redeem the time” and “take every thought captive,” so the Valor Training Center is redeeming the school-day and taking the classroom captive for Christ. We are making education about the call of Christ on our lives.
Introducing the Valor Humanities Program
We believe that a thorough study of history, Scripture, and the Great Books of the Western tradition are powerful tools to accomplish VTC’s mission.
We believe that fellowship, prayer, Scripture memory, spiritual direction, accountability, and servant-leadership are necessary parts of education.
We believe that an effective education cannot be given; it must be taken, taken by clear-eyed students who eagerly shoulder the work of a disciple.
The Valor Humanities Program is a community of students and mentors ready to reimagine education in this way.
Core Values
BROTHERHOOD and BELONGING - As students enter the program, they are joining a band of brothers, an intimate cohort of young men that will spend four years working, praying, learning, and growing together.
APPRENTICESHIP - We are adopting an apprenticeship model of education. All young men enter the program as Apprentices, and develop a portfolio of meaningful work that will earn them promotion to the Journeyman and the Master stages.
PURPOSEFUL CURRICULUM - The program includes a rigorous curriculum based in the humanities, the study of history, the Great Books, theology and Scripture.
WHOLISTIC EDUCATION - This is a wholistic education aimed at the Hands and Heart, as well as the Head. The course includes hands-on service projects and spiritual practices that shape the whole man.
MENTORSHIP - Each cohort will be led by a team of dedicated men who combine a knowledge of the subject-matter with a passion for discipleship.

Students enter the program as Apprentices, joining a cohort—an intimate team of young men and mentors—that will together make the journey from Apprentice to Master.
